Psychology

A Psychologist can assist young people and parents/carers think through challenges by collaborating, problem solving, and implementing strategies that address behaviours, regulate the body, and change thinking patterns.

The Rainbow Clinic provides psychology support to young children and adolescents, as well as families and carers from different backgrounds and abilities.

Psychologists support young people with co-morbid mental health conditions, experiences of trauma, behaviours of concern, and neurodevelopmental differences. Goals can be achieved through a range of services and approaches, which have been further outlined below.

Assessment & Therapy

Psychology services can include one-to-one therapy, psychological assessments, group therapy programs, and parent support. These services can be provided at The Rainbow Clinic, in the home, at school, or a place a young person feels most comfortable in achieving their goals.

The needs of the whole child are considered, and a collaborative relationship is formed with families to provide the tools to enhance wellbeing, build on strengths, and to gain confidence in navigating difficult times.

Psychology Assessment

The clinic offer a range of assessments around social, emotional and behavioural functioning, as well as specific diagnostic assessments for Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and cognitive function (or cognition). Assessments can also be completed around assessing the mental health of young people and the impact of these difficulties on their daily lives.

Please contact the clinic for further information on assessment offerings or to book your child in for an initial assessment.

Individual & Group Therapy

The psychology service will work with the young person and their family to determine whether individual therapy or group therapy may best suit the presenting concerns.

Individual therapy allows targeted individualised one-on-one sessions that are specific to the young person’s goals. The sessions incorporate activities and strategies that are most relevant to a child’s age.

Our psychology groups focus on parent specific programs, and groups for young people addressing anxieties.
